Taani (تأني), is a composition that brings together the rich, soulful tones of the oud and the deep, expressive sound of the cello. This piece is the result of a collaboration between myself, Sufian Ararah, on Oud, and the phenomenal cellist Paul Rittel (stage name: P.R.). We began working on Taani in early January 2024, and despite only having a few weeks to finalize and record the piece before I had to travel again, we managed to capture its essence in this performance. The recording occurred in Bonn, Germany, where we fused our musical styles, creating a unique blend of Mediterranean, North African, Jazz, and classical influences.
A collection of original music blending Mediterranean roots and contemporary sounds. The playlist features collaborations with percussionist Armando Fiore (Palermo), performances with Sufian’s quartet Tarhal alongside Davide Macaluso (clarinet) and Mohamed Gehmi (cello & bass), as well as intimate solo pieces and musical sketches released on YouTube.
